Episode 142: 88 Miles Per Hour [Sonic CD]

If you thought a DeLorean was an inelegant vehicle to house a time travel device, consider a pair of bright red buckle shoes.  That said, the general fashion faux pas can easily generate 1 point 21 jiggawatts of embarrassment energy, so perhaps it's actually more efficient than plutonium.  Join us on an epoch spanning adventure to stop Robotnik from... doing evil things?  Mecha Sonic's here, so at least that's neat.  Also, Amy... I guess?!

Show Notes

(01:00) The laser disc being referred to was in an episode of Bebop, but apparently that show is old enough that it came out in that format.

(01:15) Not that the content is particularly interesting, but I would like the listeners to be in awe of how many changes Alpha 14 of 7DTD had.

(09:00) Speaking of non-lethal options.  Also, cheeps!  Cheeps?

(20:00) Hartler.

(33:00) You can skip Batman v. Superman if you were even considering it.

(37:00) Vampires vs. Zombies is the movie whose title we were trying to remember.

(41:00) Apparently Tien's third eye lets him see ghosts.

(45:00) Being unable to unring a bell makes a lot more sense in the context of a deleted scene.

(49:30) A bit of console history if you're interested.

(50:00) Time travel is cool, right?

(57:30) Cool bosses, bro!

Everyone loved metal blades, so why not put some of those in greyscale?  It can't be that much of a difference anyway.  Also, we should definitely add a jackhammer because people love construction!  Take a Rush Jet with us to the next installment of Sorta-Porting™ the Mega Man franchise to the Game Boy.  Did we mention metal blades?

Episode 140: Swamp Steve [The Adventures of Bayou Billy]

One man's swamp is every man's death trap. For as much as people make fun of Australia as being a place where all life evolved to kill humans (except koalas, I suppose), swamps are pretty deadly. There are blue shirted guys, scuba guys, guys with rocks, croco-guy-les. Truly, the deadly forces of nature are arrayed against our brave hero, who just can't seem to G-R-A-S-P how to effectively fight in the bayou.

Downloads make better weapons than Billy's fists.

(07:10) OMG Slimes!  Slime Rancher is super adorable and shaping up to be a pretty great game.  It's currently only got about 4-6 hours of content, but it's got a lot of potential and the devs appear to be really dedicated.

(12:30) Want to blow a few minutes finding Waldo?

(26:30) Who actually wants to control their trained fighters?

How do you prove who the best fighter in the world is?  Arbitrarily group them by country and make them compete in teams of three!  Arguably, team "Terry and Andy are brothers and stuff" is probably going to win, but team "Ryu clones" has a fighting chance.  Sadly, King might have been better off tending bar.  Charge your super moves and punch your way to enlightenment with us!

Never before have ruffians been so... rough.  Inhuman, even.  That's, alright, though, because this horrible dystopia featuring livestock (‽) become a hivemind of rampaging monsters, paramilitary groups oppressing the citizens they're protecting from the hordes, and a city literally filling with an ocean of blood is all just a training exercise for our protagonist.  What I've just described, though, sounds like some cross of Silent Hill and Metal Gear, which sounds great.  Do a barrel dodge!

(26:30) Melee time!

(27:30) Japan, home of impractical weapon ideas.

(30:00) Speaking of blood oceans: I took some time to do some quick math based on the following assumptions: all of Tokyo is covered in blood, and since we can't see any buildings during the fight, that it covers the tallest building.  This results in 2.8e14 humans worth of blood.  Of course, there might be more than blood, so assuming a largish human average size, that's 1.7e13 full humans in Tokyo.  These are both orders of magnitude greater than the population of earth (~7e9.  You're welcome.

There comes a time in the life of every brawler/scientist where the science takes a back seat... to JUSTICE! Episode 132: Pokémon WIZARD [Pokémon Pinball RS]

Somehow... it has taken us over 130 episodes to finally play a pinball game.  Perhaps more surprising is that this is only our third Pokémon game.  On a vaguely related note, everyone I know pronounces it "Pókemon", but we were all kids who didn't understand accents at the time.  At any rate, we're going to loop our way through hatching, catching, evolving... Really, everything in this game comes down to shooting 1 of 4 loops.  Also, occasionally annoying a Pelipper enough to cause it to eat you.

Episode 124: Rister, Reister, Scheister, Meister? *shrug* [Ristar]

If Sonic's Sega's answer to Mario, then clearly Ristar is their answer to Kirby. Obviously, because they both involve stars. Give your arms a good stretch as we go traversing across a star system to combat... some evil. Also, some spinny pod things that aren't really a threat, but are apparently minions. Shake it out!

The download's ju~ust out of reach.

Show Notes

(01:00) I propose the Doctor is psychic type.

(06:30) Zach talks about Hyperdimension Neptunia: Re birth 1.

(08:30) Geremy's take on MGS V makes it sound fun.

(23:00) Now you, too, can be in on Tyler's joke.

(23:20) Poor Ristar...

(24:00) Why, Knuckles?!

(24:30) Ristar has cool climbing mechanics!  Too bad that's it.  Boring enemies, awkward hitboxes, confusing boss fights, and stale mechanics make this one pretty forgettable.  So much so, all of us forgot what game we were supposed to play!

(41:00) Slotting this into our list.

Next time on Last Time,  Super Castlevania 4!

We're running out of whip jokes!
